Melody Woods is a small ~50 family Mutual Water Company.  Homeowners are shareholders in the water company.  In other words, Melody Woods Water is “us”!  Melody Woods is a volunteer-run organization.  That keeps our water costs low (for a mountain community!) and control local.  We encourage everyone to help in keeping our system running.

Melody Woods is a mix of old and new.  On one hand, we have new state-of-the-art radio reading water meters that not only keep track for billing but help us spot water leaks and tell the homeowner about them.  Our treatment plant has an up-to-date system for removing iron and manganese from our water.  (We also chlorinate for disinfection.)  On the other hand, our pipes in the ground date back to after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and our main storage tanks and wells bores are older than that.

We have two wells, a storage tank near the treatment plant and an 88 thousand gallon tank up off of Summit Road which gravity feeds water to the community.  Drinking water and fire hydrants are all connected to the same distribution system.

We rely on the community to be wise in using water and our rates encourage that, with increased cost per unit of water the more that is used each month.  Drought rates are currently in effect.
